Department of Languages and Mass Communication

The Department of Languages and Mass Communication was established in 2005 at Kathmandu University. Initially, the department was situated centrally in the university premises of Dhulikhel. As its core academic activity, Bachelor in Media Studies program was launched in 2006. Master in Media Studies program has been recently launched in 2022 with first intake starting in August (Fall Session).

The Department hosts a team of highly qualified professors with expertise mainly in Journalism, Communication, Information Communication Technology, Media Research among several other core fields of media as well as other associated fields. At present, the department is located in Hattiban premise as one of the four departments of School of Arts.

Resources: 

The department has the latest recording equipment for practical courses such as DSLR/Mirrorless cameras for visual media productions. It has robust devices like Zoom recorders, Rode mics and audio mixer, playback devices for sound recording. It has a television studio with digital Sony HD camcorders. For the post production and students’ practicum purposes a well equipped Digital Media Lab is full of IMAC computers.

International Co-operation

Every year some selected students of Bachelor in Media Studies from the department visit Jade University of Applied Sciences in Germany to study for a semester as exchange students and collect different learning experiences as they return. Similar opportunities will also be available for the students of Master in Media Studies in Norway.
